December 3 is the International Day for Persons with Disabilities. It is also the 9th day of 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence.
According to the NS Advisory Council on the Status of Women, 55% of all women with disabilities in Canada who’ve been in an intimate partnership report experiencing some form of partner violence in their lifetime – compared to 37% of women without disabilities.
The “Not Without Us” Community Response project is a group of government and community stakeholders working to develop a plan to remove accessibility barriers for all women with disabilities who experience intimate partner violence. If you haven't read their report, it is available HERE.
Lunenburg Barre is holding a special holiday barre class with all proceeds going to Second Story!
"The class will be by donation (suggested donation is $25 but all donations are welcome, including those who want to donate who can’t attend class.) Class will take place Thursday, December 23, 9:30 am at the Lunenburg Community Centre, upstairs in the multi-purpose room. It corresponds with the last Lunenburg Farmers Market before Christmas so you can stock up before coming! Class is open to all levels, no experience is needed. All you need is a yoga mat and proof of second vaccination. Please share widely so we can pack the room and raise money for this special place."
Special guest: Local poet and survivor, Katie Feltmate will share from her recently released book of poetry, Love in the Age of Quarantine. Registration is required, but easy!
