We Are Still Here Yes it's true! All of us at Second Story Women's Centre are still around working hard from home and sometimes at the office. We are making plans for re-opening that we hope to be able to share in the next couple weeks. Things will absolutely look and feel different when you come to the Centre, however, we are still here to provide the best support and services we are able to during this strange and difficult time. Like many of you, we are looking forward to reconnecting away from the virtual format. Virtual options will still be available to people when and as needed. Stay tuned to hear about our plans.

Current COVID Feeling We are still very much in the middle of this COVID journey and for many it has been tiring. We have all been experiencing many different thoughts, feelings, and opinions throughout the past four months. This pandemic has been easier to navigate for some than others. We continue to receive conflicting messages of what is safe and what is not. It can be overwhelming to say the least. Whatever you are feeling at this time please honour and be okay with those feelings; anger, gratitude, anxiety, happiness, frustration, and more. Please be kind to one another, support one another, and respect the choices each of us make while navigating this strange time. We are in this together and we can support one another as friends, family, neighbours, and a community. Most of all, be kind and gentle with yourself. For full newsletter click HERE.

A wonderful thank you to all of our volunteers at Second Story Women's Centre. Individuals who volunteer with our organization range from youth to over 90 years old. There are many roles volunteers play in the centres success including program facilitation, watering plants, board membership, front desk support, cooking/baking, event support, supportive listening, and the list goes on and on. (The garden pictured above was recently planted by a couple of our volunteers.) Our organization would not be able to achieve half of what we do each year if it weren't for our amazing group of dedicated volunteers. Thank you so very much for sharing your valuable time, unique skills, kindness, and dedication, we are forever grateful! For full newsletter click HERE.
We are doing a bit of a summer shake up! In response to the changes and struggles our communities have been facing these past few months, we have decided that a Wellness for Girls Camp and a Wellness for Boys Camp is a great way to support our youth. We are planning the format to take place online to allow for flexibility and necessary social distancing expectations. These camps will be light, fun, and packed with wellness ideas. Take a minute and pour yourself a glass of water... It is so very important that we take time to focus on our mental health and wellness during this time of COVID-19, social distancing, and isolation. Drinking lots of water can support your wellness and mental health. The amount of water that your body needs each day varies from person to person. There are websites that can help you decide what the ideal amount is for you, or you can start with drinking 8 glasses of water a day. There are a number of benefits drinking more water have for your mental health including reduced anxiety, increased energy, and can improve your mood. For full Newsletter click here.
As we are learning to cope with a new way of life with social distancing and isolation, tragedy strikes our province and rattles us to the core. We are left shaken, heartbroken, lost and grasping for understanding. We may not notice the impact this is having on our nervous system and we MUST take time to stay grounded. Our tendency might be to ignore the signs in our body or go on caring for others and not ourselves. We encourage you to take time for yourself even when it might not feel necessary. In these times of great fear and uncertainty, placing our focus on one thing that is certain...flowers coming up, birds singing...can offer some peace. Now more than ever we must be kind to ourselves and each other. We continue to answer emails & phone messages - info@secondstory.ca (902) 540-3044 Click here for full Newsletter.
"WOW, this COVID-19 Crisis is quite the ride; as an individual, a community, a country, and around the world. We are being forced to travel a path that we definitely were not expecting! The path has bumps, can feel uphill, has ugly bits, has beauty, can feel lonely, and we are unable to see the end which could be far away or just around the courner. The journey along the path will be easier for some than it is for others. Everything is new and we are all learning along the way. It is important to be kind to yourself, do what you can and that is enough. Please, help others along the way when and if you are able to. While the path for each of us will look different, we must be kind and understanding to one another and most importantly to ourselves. Stay on your path, take your time, and do only what you can. |
