Second Story Women’s Centre is located in historic Lunenburg, Nova Scotia and serves clients from Queens and Lunenburg Counties. Our Vision is gender equity and safe, healthy relationships on the South Shore. We respond to our communities needs by providing one-on-one and group programs and services within safer, trauma-informed spaces and advocate for social and systemic change.
We are seeking a passionate and dynamic Community Engagement Coordinator to join our dedicated team. As the Community Engagement Coordinator, you will play a pivotal role in fostering meaningful connections within our feminist organization and the community we serve. Your responsibilities will include coordinating volunteers, managing social media, handling reception duties and providing resources and confidential referrals.

Knowledge, skills and abilities
Experience & Education: Post Secondary education in Social Services or other related field. 3 or more years of experience in client-centered work. Experience in the non-profit or public sectors considered an asset. Experience with webpage management an asset but not required.

Work Conditions:
- The Community Engagement Coordinator works a 4-day week (32 hrs. Monday-Thursday), but may occasionally be required to work flexible hours to accommodate needs
- This is an in-person position, working from our location in Lunenburg, NS
- Start Date is ASAP
- Salary Range is $43,000-$45,000 plus RRSP, Health Plan, Paid Holidays
As part of their primary responsibilities, the Community Engagement Coordinator will:
- Coordinate and oversee the recruitment, training and scheduling of volunteers for various roles within our services, programs and events
- Develop and execute a feminist-focused social media strategy, creating engaging content and managing platforms to increase our organization’s online presence and community engagement
- Serve as the welcoming face of our feminist organization by managing reception tasks, including answering phone calls, welcoming visitors and helping to create a safe, positive experience
- Act as a trusted point of contact for individuals seeking resources and referrals to services, demonstrating empathy, discretion and an understanding of feminist principles
- Collaborate with internal teams to identify community needs and contribute to the planning and execution of events, initiatives and campaigns
- Maintain accurate records, databases and reports related to volunteer engagement, membership, social media metrics, referrals and interactions
- Carry out some administrative tasks such as: banking and data entry
Knowledge, skills and abilities
- Skilled communicator in both written and verbal formats
- Proficient in the use of computer technologies including MS Office & Social Media Platforms
- Established ability to leverage social media and new and innovative technologies to support deliverables
- Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information with discretion and sensitivity
- Demonstrated knowledge of issues facing rural women and gender diverse people in Nova Scotia
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of diversity, equity and decolonization
- Knowledge of community organizations in Queens and Lunenburg Counties
- Demonstrated ability to engage and collaborate with diverse stakeholders to achieve common goals
- Strong organization and initiative skills
- Ability to effectively represent the organization to clients and community
- Enthusiasm for feminist, client-centred work and making an impact on the lives of others
