Current Volunteer Roles

FRONT DESK
The individual at the front desk is the entry point for all people connecting with the centre, whether it is their first time or have been before. All must feel welcome and supported to the best of our ability.  The Front Desk Volunteer coordinates the happenings at the entry point of the centre including managing the needs of individuals entering or calling the centre, and supporting the organization as a whole in additional tasks where appropriate.

Committee volunteer
Social Action, Fundraising, and other committees play key roles in Second Story Women's Centre's mission. Committee work is a vital part of the organization's success. A committee member attends meetings of their chosen committee and engages in discussion, action planning, and carries out tasks as agreed up by the participants.  Click on the Volunteer Application button above to express interest in this position.
Accompaniment
Isolation and access to natural supports show up in many forms in our communities including geographical, individual ability, and financial.  Accompaniment is an important part of reducing isolation and increasing natural supports for women and gender oppressed individuals in our communities.   The role of an accompaniment volunteer includes driving individuals to appointments and programming opportunities or attending appointments and an advocate or support person.  Click on the Volunteer Application button above to express interest in this position.
Supportive LIstening Volunteer
Individuals are looking to access supportive counselling at Second Story Women’s Centre more frequently resulting in a long waitlist.  A supportive listener is an individual who will meet with individuals on the waitlist whose presenting needs are not complex and do not require ongoing support.  The role of the supportive listener is to offer short term support through active listening, a strength based approach, and offering referrals as needed.  While this is different from a counselling role, formal counselling experience and training are needed for this volunteer role.  Click on the Volunteer Application button above to express interest in this position.
baking cookies
Second Story Women’s Centre receives support from many individuals and organizations across Lunenburg and Queens Counties.  It is important to us that we show our gratitude in different ways when we are able to.  One way we do this is by giving cookies to individuals and businesses who support us by offering donations or support for fundraising events.  A Baking Cookies volunteer would bake a batch or two of cookies and package them as needed.  Click on the Volunteer Application button above to express interest in this position.
Other Opportunities
Other volunteer opportunities come up from time to time.  For example, we have volunteers who make soup for our community lunch and learn, facilitate groups, offer wellness opportunities, offer tech related support, data base organizing, office organizing, and more.  If  you have a thought on something you would like to offer as a volunteer please reach out at info@secondstory.ca.   If you’d like to be added to our volunteer database to be ready to help as opportunities arise fill out the Volunteer Application by clicking on the purple button above.
