LEANNE LEARNING FUND

ABOUT THE LEANNE LEARNING FUND

What is it?

The Leanne Learning Fund is a brand-new fund which has been established by a private donor, a long-time supporter of the Second Story Women’s Centre. If you are a girl, woman, or gender-oppressed person living in Lunenburg or Queen’s County, the Leanne Learning Fund can assist you to participate in learning opportunities that support your personal growth, whether educationally, physically, or emotionally. Do you want to attend a skills or educational upgrading course, or take part in a fitness or art program, or maybe a leadership course? Any such program, not just formal education, could potentially qualify for an award of up to $500 under this Fund, based upon the cost of the program.

How do I apply?

The application form is available to be downloaded or filled in at the link on this page, and can also be emailed out to you upon request - just call the SSWC office. Paper copies of the application can also be picked up at the Centre. Applications are accepted year-round and will normally be reviewed every 3 months [February 1, May 1, August 1, November 1]. This time-line for review could have flexibility when circumstances require it, so please make a note on the form if this applies to you.

Additional information

You will be advised of the result of your application within a week of the review date. The awarded funds will be paid directly to the program or institution for which you are applying. Following the completion of your learning opportunity, you will be asked to complete a brief confidential survey. Please note in some cases a bursary can be considered taxable income and may have tax implications for you.

ABOUT LEANNE

Picture
Leanne was a gentle, tender-hearted and affectionate child who loved and was loved by her brother and sister, her mom and dad, and her dog Pepe, as well as a variety of animals, from dogs to frogs, that she rescued and nurtured.
On June 25, 1988, at 7:15 am, Leanne was killed in a crash caused by an impaired driver. Losing her at the age of eleven left a great void in her family's lives .
