How do I get to Second Story Women’s Centre and where do I park?
Second Story Women’s Centre is located in Lunenburg at 18 Dufferin St, in the Old Train Station, at the head of the walking trail, just before the dog park. There are 4 parking spaces at the front of the building including an ability space. There is also community parking at the far end of the building.
Are you a shelter?
Second Story Women’s Centre is not a shelter. The nearest women’s shelter is Harbour House in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia 902-543-3999 harbour-house.ca
Do your services cost?
All of our workshops, programs and services are FREE! If you'd like to make a financial donation to support our programs and services, you can do so HERE!
Are your programs for low income people only?
Our programs are for all women and gender-diverse people regardless of income.
Where are your counselling services offered?
Currently we offer off-site counselling in Chester, Bridgewater, New Ross and Liverpool. We also offer counselling at our Centre in Lunenburg.
Do I need a referral for counselling
A referral is not needed to access counselling. You can call Second Story Women’s Centre at 902-640-3044 and complete a short intake process to access counselling.

Can I see a counsellor right away?
Unfortunately, there is currently a waitlist for counselling. To be placed on the waitlist please contact Second Story Women’s Centre at [email protected] or call 902-640-3044 to talk about other supports and resources that may be available to you while you wait.
How long are the wait times for counselling?
We are unable to give an exact wait time for counselling. After a short intake, you will be given an idea of how long the wait currently is. Please reach out via email [email protected] or 902-640-3044 .
Are your services only available to people who have experienced domestic violence?
Our services are available to all women, girls and gender-diverse people regardless of their experiences.
What resources are there for individuals who have experienced a sexual assault?
Do you provide support for couples?
We do not provide couples counselling. However, individuals have seen improvements in their relationships after receiving individual counselling.
Do I have to register for programs and events?
Most of our programs are drop in. At times we do have workshops and groups that you need to register for. If registration is required, details will be included in the program information. For event information, click here. For other program and workshop information, click here.
Do you offer financial assistance or loans?
We do not offer financial assistance or loans. We can help you navigate different systems to support you in finding what is available to support your needs.

Do you take clothing, household, and other donations?
We do accept donations of unopened and unscented toiletry items. Click here for a list of preferred toiletry items. Please note: any toiletry items that have been opened or used will be thrown out due to sanitary reasons. We are not able to accept clothing and household donations due to a lack of space. These donations can be made to other organizations such as Harbour House, the Flourish Centre, the Family Resource Centre, St. Vincent de Paul (furniture) or The Daisy.
How is Second Story Women’s Centre funded?
We receive approximately 80% of our core funding from the Nova Scotia Advisory Council at the Status of Women. The other 20% comes from community support.
