From our friends at the Nova Scotia Native Women's Association:

"October 4th is National Day of Action for MMIWG2S. Today and everyday, we honour the thousands of missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls and two-spirit people. ❤️
There are 231 Calls To Action in the TRC Report that need to be addressed. Please take the time to read these Calls To Action.
For emotional support, you can call:
MMIWG National Support Line 1-844-413-6649
NS Mi’kmaq Crisis & Referral Line 1-855- 379-2099
Residential School Support Line 1-866-925-4419"

The National Inquiry into MMIWG released its final report in 2019 which included 231 calls to action, which you can read here.

An action plan was released last year, but a year later, many Indigenous women are unhappy with the slow pace in which the government is enacting it.

We encourage everyone to read the Calls to Action, the action plan, and the ongoing criticism of the process from Indigenous women and consider how you might support the movement to end the genocide of Indigenous women and girls in Canada.

We are remembering Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls today at the Women's Centre.

would like to share some social media accounts that we highly recommend following for updates and information and calls to action on MMIWG2S, year-round.
  • Families of Sisters in Spirit on Facebook - FSIS is an all-volunteer, grassroots, unfunded group of families of missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls, and Two-Spirit people and ally-friends.
  • Butterflies in Spirit on Instagram - BiS is a group of Indigenous performers who dance to raise awareness for MMIWG2S.
  • NS Native Women's Association on Facebook
  • National Family and Survivors Circle on Facebook - The National Family and Survivors Circle (NFSC): Indigenous women and 2SLGBTQQIA+ family members of MMIWG2S+ and survivors of gender- and race-based violence advocating for transformative change for Indigenous women, girls and gender-diverse people.

Unfortunately, we have had to cancel this year's Sisters in Spirit event with the Mi'kmaq Heritage and Sacred Sites Association due to illness.
