Truth and Reconciliation Week

This week is Truth and Reconciliation Week and Thursday, September 30 is the first National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. The Centre will be closed to observe this day. If you're wondering how you might commemorate and honour Residential School survivors and their families on September 30 (or throughout the year), here are some suggestions:

Local Events
  • Liverpool - Drums, singing, dancing, storytelling and Survivors. September 30, 1-4 pm at the Hank Snow Museum (148 Bristol Avenue, Liverpool). More info here: https://fb.me/e/38FCIozWE

Virtual Programming:
  • The National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation has a whole week's worth of programming planned for this week, available at: https://nctr.ca/education/trw/general-public-schedule
  • Downie Wenjack Broadcast - CKBW will be broadcasting the 'A Day for Truth and Reconciliation: Amplifying Indigenous Voices' one hour special at noon on Thursday, September 30. You can also listen to the program on demand at https://downiewenjack.ca/a-day-for-truth-and-reconciliation

For Kids
  • The First Nations Child and Family Caring Society is making their film, Spirit Bear and Children Make History, available to the public for free all this week! Access to the film, as well as other resources for reconciliation, is available here: https://buff.ly/3kCQx2b​
  • #EveryChildMatters Colouring Pages - Hawlii Pichette, a Mushkego Cree iskwew artist and illustrator from Peetabeck Treaty 9 territory, has created some beautiful colouring pages that can be downloaded and printed for free here:  urbaniskwew.com/coloring-pages
