Today is International Rural Women’s Day. Second Story Women's Centre is proud to serve the women of Lunenburg and Queens Counties. Read up on some of the unique challenges that women in rural Nova Scotia face, and how women's resource centres, like Second Story, need adequate funding to help address these complex issues HERE.
The Salvation Army in Bridgewater is taking applications for it's 2021 Christmas Assistance Programs.
Applications for toys for children 16 and under and Christmas food hampers are available HERE and HERE.
Please note, applications must be dropped off at the Salvation Army location in Bridgewater at 116 Pleasant Street (not the Thrift store location) during the times listed below. An interview will take place at that time. The Salvation Army has indicated that any application that is dropped off without an interview taking place will not be processed. They have recommended following their Facebook for more information.
This week is Truth and Reconciliation Week and Thursday, September 30 is the first National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. The Centre will be closed to observe this day. If you're wondering how you might commemorate and honour Residential School survivors and their families on September 30 (or throughout the year), here are some suggestions:

❤... and above all, check on your friends and loved ones... EVEN the strong ones. Sometimes it's the people who seem the strongest who have the hardest time asking for help. Don't wait for them to ask: check in, make sure they know you care and that you're available to listen and support them.

...Another option is Bridgewater Adult High School. BAHS is accepting applications until September 17 for the fall semester from anyone who is 18 or older!
BAH offers courses for students to complete their high school diploma, as well as students who want to upgrade courses to earn prerequisites for college and university entry. There is no tuition and classes are 'geared towards' helping adult learners achieve success through individualized, student-centered learning and teaching; regardless of how long the student has been away from a formal learning situation.
